Free Speaker Series: Having The Talk

The GrandParents Support Network KC's speaker series began in January 2017. This is the fifth session of the series! Sessions will be held on a Saturday of every month spanning January to October. We will have speakers on a variety of topics including Trauma and resilience, Financial planning, Advocating for yourself and your grandchild, Navigating the school system, Legal aid, Stress Management, and more!

 The monthly events are free and parking is free. There will be DOOR PRIZES and SCRATCHER TICKETS for all who rsvp!

 Childcare will be provided for grandchildren between the ages of 3 and 12. If you will be bringing your grandchildren, please let us know by registering them separately on the registration page. Refreshments will be provided, along with the opportunity to socialize and visit with other grandparents. We look forward to seeing you there!

 The fifth session has two speakers, Sarah Knopf-Amelung and Vanessa Sanburn. Sarah is the director of two major addiction research grants, the regional Mid-America ATTC grant and the national SBIRT grant. She has years of experinece teaching about substances and will be sharing some techniques you can use to peacfully and effectively talk to your grandchildren about drug use. Vanessa is a sexual education expert and owner of a local non-profit called Let's Talk. Through Let's Talk Vanessa shares with parents, grandparents, and kids about sexual safety and education. She will guide you through this sometimes difficult conversation with ease!

 Though we are bringing in two wonderful experts this session wont just focus on what they know. We need your expertise too! If you have been through these talks, will be going through these talks, or know a friend who may need this info come and join us!

 In addition to the presentation, there will be an opportunity to sign up for twice-monthly grandparent support groups at this event.
