The Kansas City, Missouri Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta along with the DEED Foundation presents the 14th Annual Burning Sands Step Show on Saturday, November 14, 2009.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is an international organization with the purpose of empowering and serving local communities throughout the world. The sorority, comprised of predominantly African-American women, was founded on January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 black, college-educated women committed to public service, scholarship and sisterhood. 96 years later, this non-profit organization has over 250,000 members and 900+ chapters worldwide.

The Greater Kansas City area boasts several area collegiate and alumnae chapters of Delta Sigma Theta in both Kansas and Missouri.  Since 1969, The Kansas City Missouri Alumnae Chapter has positively impacted the Kansas City, MO urban community by providing programs such as, the Cotillion youth development and scholarship program; Delta GEMS, empowering teenage girls 14-18 years of age; Summit VI, promoting health issues that impact women of African descent; and other services in partnership with the Delta Economic and Educational Development (DEED) Foundation.  The chapter’s immensely popular annual fundraiser and alumni showcase is the Burning Sands Alumni Step Show. One of urban KC’s most anticipated events of the year, the typically sold out step show features step teams representing the fraternal groups of National Pan-Hellenic Council.

This year, the KCMO Alumnae Chapter and DEED presents the 14th Annual Burning Sands Step Show on Saturday, November 14th at the Scottish Rite Temple (Linwood & Paseo).  The show will feature ten step teams and a host of local and national sponsors and vendors. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door and include the after party immediately following the show.  Guests must be 18 years or older to attend the event. Doors open at 6:00pm and the show starts promptly at 8:00pm. Tickets are available at T-Shirt King on 12th & Brooklyn, KCMO or from any member of Delta’s KCMO Alumnae Chapter. For more information, email stepshow@dstkcmo.org or visit www.dstkcmo.org.

  • It will be great to find out more about Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. There are very little movements in the world that have existed for such a long time. It means that it is really important for people.
