Drake…Far From Over
Monday, April 26th, The Outside of the UMKC Swinney Recreation Center becomes a fashion forward, melting pot. Everything from silhouette forming dresses with 5 inch heels to loose rugged jeans with high top sneakers are present, College students and devoted music lovers buzz about the high anticipated Canadian rap sensation, Drake as his “Away From Home” College tour lands in Kansas City.
The massive crowd, estimated at over one thousand, gather in front of the entrance, even before doors open at 7pm. Once security announces tickets are being accepted, guests bombard the concert center for the closest view of their favorite artist. The opening acts Francis and the Lights approach the stage dressed in all black with playful hairstyles and entertain with a nice mixture of contemporary alternative and Hip-Hop. Another opener, K-Os continues to engage the audience with a ray of songs hyping the energy to intolerable level for the main act.
It’s time. After an intermission, Drake comes onto the stage. He is reminiscent of an old neighborhood friend that u haven't seen in a while but always a pleasure to see. He lets the audience knows how much they are appreciated and gives them an update, of who he calls, his Little big brother, Grammy award winning artist Lil Wayne.
His amazing energy brings the element of true musicianship. He slowly transitions the music to enticing mellow mood then brings on an unexpected fan to the stage to openly seduce with his hands and charismatic deep voice. You can tell he loves it as much as they do.
He further connects with fans by letting them know he is making history in Kansas City by finishing his debut album that night, which is scheduled for release Early June. I must say he truly lives up to the hit single "Successful" featuring Trey Songz and Lil Wayne where he recites." In person I am everything and more, I am something that you n****s never seen before.
Lastly, in case there are any questions, he informs us that it is far from "Over'. No Drake it certainly isn't over. We all are looking forward to your longevity in the industry. Signing off. Keyana C for KCSoul.com
