Stock market volatility can try the nerves of even the most seasoned investor. When markets decline, it's a natural reaction to want to preserve your assets.

Many investors find it difficult to invest when the market is down.
Faced with turmoil in the markets, many choose to simply stay on the sidelines, waiting for the right time to invest. While getting out of the stock market may mean avoiding more down days, you could miss out on the up days in the market.

While it is impossible to predict what the market will do, there are some strategies you can use to help make a volatile market a little easier to navigate. Consider these ideas:

a. Remain focused on your long-term goals. Do not let short-term market conditions cause you to abandon the commitment you made to pursue your long-term goals.

b. If you are dollar-cost averaging* or systematically investing into the market, keep it up. These are the times to which we look forward so we can buy a greater number of shares at a lower cost per share.

c.. If you are looking for the right time to invest, consider this as good a time as any. Low market values are a great investment opportunity. I can show you a prudent way to ease your available funds into the market, starting today.

It is important to focus on investment fundamentals and make rational decisions based on facts and discipline rather than emotion. I am here to help you assess your financial needs and construct a well-diversified, professionally managed investment portfolio customized for your long-term goals.

If you are considering making changes to your investment portfolio in light of recent market events, I encourage you to call me for an appointment.

Sincerely,

Ben F. Boyd, Jr.

*Dollar-cost averaging does not assure a profit and does not protect against loss in declining markets. Such a plan involves continuous investment in securities regardless of the fluctuation of price levels of such securities. An investor should consider his or her financial ability to continue his or her purchases through periods of low price levels.
